The Courtyard Casa Transformation

BEFOREAFTER

INTRO

The Courtyard Casa project is located in a highly-coveted neighborhood in Denton, Texas. Mature trees, large yards, and well-tended (if out-of-date) homes mostly built in the 1970s create a draw to the neighborhood. The Courtyard Casa, as its name suggests, has a beautifully landscaped front courtyard. While several interior areas have benefitted from updates, the master bathroom was choppy, awkward, and out-of-date. We were delighted to help imagine a new space!

When asked what fueled her decision to renovate, our client responded:

“Credibility. Style of contractors. Used IG to follow Irwin Construction before making contact for a consult.”

BEFORE

The vanity area of the master bathroom opened directly into the entry of the house, and also functioned as the entry area into the master bedroom. The segmenting of the bathroom into three separate areas (vanity, toilet, and shower) left all three areas feeling small.

Our client desired to separate the bathroom from the entry hall by moving its entrance to the master bedroom, and utilize part of the previous vanity area as a proper entrance into the master suite, complete with a linen closet.

“The space made no logical sense when it was designed. When I purchased the house I kept scratching my head wondering why would anyone design a bathroom like this? Nothing worked design wise. The only part of the space that was used was the sink and toilet.”

Our main goals for the project were:

  • Increase functionality
  • Increase storage
  • Update style – We set out to focus on a modern farmhouse vibe with clean, geometric lines, a mostly black and white color palette, and high focus on texture

DURING

In order to gain more space in the bathroom, we moved the wall between the master bathroom and bedroom 18″ into the master bedroom. We also closed off the exterior door from the master bedroom into heo courtyard and installed windows with a cedar accent on the exterior.

The bathroom layout was completely reconfigured to enlarge the shower and move the bathroom entrance to the bedroom. To save space in the bedroom, we installed a barn door on the entrance to the bathroom. The double sliding mirrored doors on the master closet were also upgraded to custom-built double barn doors on bypass hardware.

We designed custom stain-grade cabinets including a linen tower to increase storage space and bring warmth to our black and white palette.

AFTER

When asked to choose a favorite selection in the space:

“Hmmmm. I would say everything is my favorite. Paint (Kelley is amazing with color), barn door, subway tile, concrete counter top, shiplap and custom closed barn doors.

The entire Irwin Construction crew were amazing to work with. Friendly, knowledgeable and respected my home. I whole-heartedly recommend using Irwin Construction for any remodeling jobs.  We are scheduled for 2023 for the guest bathroom!”
