Linen + Clay Kitchen

BEFOREAFTER

INTRO

Our Linen + Clay Kitchen renovation took place in a relatively new home in a popular south-central Denton, TX. While the kitchen layout was functional and relatively open, our clients desired the elevated look of cabinetry that extended to the ceiling as well as a more current color palette.

Along with the kitchen, we updated the fireplace, including a new mantle.  The flooring in the living room and kitchen was replaced for a cohesive refresh of the home’s common spaces.

BEFORE

The dark stained cabinetry, brown and gold granite counters, and stone-look tile did not not fit with our clients’ design style. The open area above the cabinetry was wasted space they wanted to utilize for storage, and they desired a more open concept between the kitchen and dining room.

Our main goals for the project were:

  • Increase functionality
  • Create more open concept
  • Customize style

DURING

We demoed the current cabinetry and the pony wall on the back side of the island, and opened up the top portion of the wall between the kitchen and formal dining room to create a pass-through with an arched opening. All lighting was updated, and we worked with our clients to design custom cabinetry that was perfect for their space and functional needs.

In the living room, we installed new stone on the fireplace, a larger firebox, and built up a new hearth with a limestone cap. The new mantel was stained to coordinate with the woodgrain floor tile.

Our clients loved the look of Sherwin Williams Cavern Clay, and we built a color palette around this beautiful terracotta hue. We used warm taupes in both light and dark on the kitchen cabinetry and walls so that the dining room walls could be the star of the color show. The wood-grain floor tile brought natural texture to the design without feeling busy, and our clients selected a lovely, subtle quartz for the counters with taupe veining to pull the color scheme together.

AFTER

The homeowners sent us a heartfelt email after their project was completed and we wanted to share a portion of what they said.

“We love our new Kitchen, Dining Room, Living Room and Flooring downstairs! Thank you guys so much for the awesome job you all did throughout our project. While we are extremely excited about the outcome, we are so appreciative of your team that made this overall project exceed our expectations!

Starting with the ideation / design / quoting, you and Jeremy did a great job of setting expectations and helping us to make decisions for our project. I was useless on the design discussions, so we are so thankful that Kelley and her team worked with us on those details! They did a great job keeping us up to date, answering our questions and even went above and beyond to drive across the metroplex to get the additional tile we needed. Jason (and all the general Irwin crew) were amazing in including us in key decisions that needed to be made and making suggestions that we had not considered. Jason’s attention to detail and focus on quality was so appreciated. Both he and Tzahhia also were helpful in the communication with some of the subs. Your team went above and beyond!

Your extended team of subs were great for the most part and when they were not great, you all made everything right. It is obvious that Jeremy sets high expectations for those subs, but also builds relationships to where they want to do the right thing. It would be hard to pick a favorite, but we were blown away by the following teams:

  • Painters
  • Plumber
  • Tile Guys / Tile Removal guys

These subs went out of their way to do the right thing, communicate, have high quality and left the jobsite as clean as possible. Their excellence is greatly appreciated.

Without a doubt, we would hire you guys again and recommend you to our friends and family! If you ever need a reference, please let us know… we would be happy to share our awesome experience with others!

Again, we are so grateful for Irwin Construction and loving the results of our project!”
