We recently completed The Inception House remodel, and we’re excited to share the results with you! This renovation project was located in a popular wooded neighborhood in the South Denton area where there are half acre to three-quarter acre lots. Needless to say, this is a very desirable, older, established neighborhood with a large amount of trees and space. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a little more room to slow down and enjoy the act of living!

This was a multilevel home that was built in 1980. It had lots of space potential and great architectural features, but needed some updates to be more functional and aesthetically-pleasing. We named this project The Inception House due to its quirky closet configuration – a closet within a closet (or closet inception as we fondly called it). Our clients are two working parents with young children. The mother is an artist and the original sunroom served as a light-filled studio space. This home was customized to match our clients’ modern artsy aesthetic and update the original layout, which had become tired and dull. Our goal was to create a beautiful, spacious, and functional kitchen and pantry area for their family. The new kitchen layout would provide an open space where the kids could safely play or do homework at the island, and the enlarged window at the sink would give a beautiful view of the tree-filled backyard as our clients tended to the dishes

Our project began with the demolition of the existing kitchen. We removed the walls separating the kitchen and living room to create an open-concept space. We also restructured the ceiling to make the kitchen more modern and open. Next, we reworked the framing for the laundry room and closet under the stairs to accommodate a new walk-in pantry and laundry area, allowing for a more efficient and functional layout.

We installed custom cabinets and knotty alder floating shelves in the kitchen for a warm and inviting look, and a larger window and casing above the sink area to let in more natural light. We installed new fixtures in the kitchen and living room to update the lighting. We also installed engineered hardwood flooring in both areas and sanded and refinished the hardwood flooring on the stairs.

In the den and the new laundry/pantry area, we installed tile flooring to add durability and ease of maintenance. In addition to structural beams installed to support the new kitchen layout, we added accent beams to the living room and kitchen ceiling to make a bold statement.

In the powder bathroom, we removed the existing flooring, vanity, and wall paneling and  installed a floating vanity and wall tile for a fresh and modern look.

Overall, we’re thrilled with the results of this kitchen and living room remodel. The open-concept layout and updated finishes have transformed the space into a modern and functional living area. Our clients have the perfect space to entertain their family and guests, while showcasing a beautiful home that suits their style perfectly. They were thrilled with their new home, and we were happy to be a part of the transformation!
