INTRO

Welcome back to our Before & After blog post series! Today we are showcasing our Geo Glow Up Kitchen project. The Geo Glow Up Kitchen project was all about updating. According to our client, the space “was functional, but very early 2000s–lots of tan and beige!”  Join us as we take a glance at each phase of the renovation process and see how this beautiful kitchen came together!

BEFORE

The original layout included formica countertops, vinyl flooring, and flush-mount fluorescent lighting. While functional, this kitchen was quite outdated from a design standpoint. Our goals for this project were to bring the design up-to-date while also creating a kitchen that was unique to our client’s style.

DURING

Our clients came into the design process with a green kitchen in mind, so we decided to make this statement color the focal point of the space by painting the cabinets Sherwin Williams Retreat. They fell in love with the black geometric backsplash, and it’s the perfect contrast to the white countertops and walls. The flooring in the other areas of the house was remaining, so we selected the color of the new kitchen floor tile carefully to coordinate with both the original flooring in the living room and the new color palette in the kitchen.

To expand this kitchen without replacing the cabinets, we fabricated a new custom base cabinet with open shelves above. This new area became a coffee bar. We replaced the formica countertops and backsplash with Frost White quartz counters and Interceramic Construct Polar Night mosaic tile. A Kohler self-trimming apron front sink allowed us to modify the existing cabinets to accommodate a farmhouse sink! The vinyl flooring was replaced with Marazzi Merona Natural 8×40 tile. We removed the flourescent light in the kitchen and installed recessed LED can lights in both the kitchen and dining room for dramatically improved light quality. Finishing touches included pendants over the peninsula, brushed gold finishes, and new cabinet hardware.

AFTER

We are incredibly proud of these results! Once renovation was complete, our client had this to say:

“The whole thing is just vastly different than before. All the elements came together to make for a kitchen that’s functional, unique to us, and beautiful!

When asked what their favorite part of the finished space was, they said:

“I think I can narrow it down to two things: the backplash and the paint color. We wanted a kitchen that was somewhat unique, but could still last through all of the trends. We always knew we wanted a green kitchen, and Kelley helped us pick the right color to fit our whole space, including our living room (open concept). And our backsplash is just so cool and unique. We love the geometric pattern and the color”.

And it just might be our favorite part too! What do you think of these results? Are you looking to renovate your own kitchen anytime soon? We hope this blog post is the inspiration you needed to get started in the right direction!
