Our Elegant Marble Bathroom project is located in a beautiful hillside neighborhood in Highland Village, Texas. The house was built in the 90s and our clients had updated much of it, but the master bathroom was dated and awkward in layout. The angular shower partially blocked the entrance to the master closet, and narrow access to the garden tub increased the closed-in feeling in the bathroom.

Our goals were to create a larger custom shower with a glass enclosure to let in plenty of light, open up the bathroom layout to make it feel larger, and give the space an overall glam feel with updated tile, countertop, and freestanding bathtub.

In the original layout, the shower took up a significant amount of space yet still felt claustrophobic. The solid walls and inefficient shape made it feel like an afterthought instead of a focal part of the bathroom design. While the garden tub was a decent size, the entrance was awkward and involved stepping directly over the tub filler. Even though the vanity was long, it lacked storage due to the vanity chair cut-out.

Our clients wanted to trade the brown tones in the bathroom for a light, airy color palette. They loved the sleek look of marble, but natural marble tile can be cost-prohibitive and difficult to maintain. Instead, we achieved the upscale aesthetic with a more durable matte marble-look porcelain tile. Since our clients wanted to install the white marble tile on the bathroom floor and shower walls, dark gray quartz and hexagon tile for the shower floor provided contrast and and drama. Chrome fixtures gave the whole space a sleek modern feel, and the hint of blue in the wall paint added just a touch of color.

We demoed the bathroom completely, rebuilding from the studs and foundation. It’s always fun to find surprises from past renovations on demo day. Check out the jungle-themed wallpaper we found under the paint!

We fabricated new custom cabinetry to maximize storage. The board and batten trim carpentry we installed around the freestanding bathtub and vanity tied in the design of the shaker-style cabinetry. White grout for the marble tile helped blend the tiles together, so grout lines wouldn’t compete with the movement from the marbling on the tile. We custom-built a dark walnut frame for the mirror and floating shelves above the bathtub to add warmth to the predominantly white and gray color palette.
