The Open Door House was a two-part project consisting of two bathroom renovations. Built in 1978, The house is set on a large lot in a hidden gem of a neighborhood in Denton, TX. Our clients felt the dated bathrooms didn’t match their style and wanted to freshen up the spaces while adding some fun texture.

We deliberated long and hard on naming this project because we wanted to choose something that described this family’s generosity with their home. Our clients are one of the most hospitable couples we’ve ever met, and always have an open door for family and friends. Thus, The Open Door House.

Before

Both bathrooms were monochromatic in tones of beige with 12×12 tile on the floor, cream cultured marble countertops and off-white cabinets and walls. Since bathroom 2 functions as a kids’ bathroom, the tub and shower surround remained. In bathroom 1 however, the bathtub/shower unit was slated to become a large custom shower.

The Process

We removed the floor tile in both bathrooms and replaced the vanities with updated furniture-style vanities with marble tops. To create more space, the fur downs above the vanities were removed in both bathrooms. Lighting was updated in both areas, incorporating LED recessed can lights and new fixtures above the vanities. New custom shower glass finished off bathroom 1 giving an open view into the sleek shower with coordinating white tile in varying textures.
